Playing Jane Austen ~ The Jane Game Launches on Kickstarter!

Today is the day! – the Kickstarter campaign of The Jane Game has been launched!

I first posted on this here in January 2013 –  now it is time for you to sign on and help with getting this Jane Austen trivia game completed for distribution – a donation of $40. [or more!] will get you a copy of the game as well as the satisfaction of helping a Jane Austen entrepreneur. The Kickstarter website is here, where you will find the details of the game, the Rules of the game, and the various donation categories – you have until December 14, 2013 to sign on… I just did, and hope you will too!

The Jane Game is a trivia board game devoted to Jane Austen’s six novels. It is designed to bring Austen admirers together to share in her stories, characters, wit and language. While playing, each participant enters Jane’s world as one of her heroines. As such, you seek after a fortunate life by becoming an accomplished woman, gaining life experience and choosing to marry or not. Through chance, expertise and choice you could become the envied Mrs. Darcy, the pitied Mrs. Collins or the new roommate of Miss Bates.

  • $37 and shipping is free; after the Kickstarter campaign it will be $40 +shipping
  • Kickstarter ends on December 14, 2013

Kickstarter 101:

  • Kickstarter is a method through which we can give small amounts of money that together will equal a large sum…which, in this case, will be the cost of manufacturing the game
  • If you give the cost of the game, then you will get a game, which basically means you are pre-ordering
  • If we do not reach our goal, your credit card doesn’t get charged. This protects you and me. It gives a guarantee that you will receive a nice product and guarantees that I won’t be stuck with promises I cannot keep because I do not have enough money

Why pledge now? 

  • You Become a Founder: As such, you become part of The Jane Game. Welcome! Your name is placed on our website and you get to take part in some of the decisions for the game’s future.
  • Get the Game…and First: You get The Jane Game, which is “loveliness itself,” is it not?  If we are able to do a larger print run and can sell them, you get the game before any other distribution begins.
  • We Need You: We have covered the cost of the game’s development, but we cannot manufacture and ship the game to you without your support.
  • Free Shipping: We are covering the cost of shipping to many areas of the world, which will not be the case if it goes retail.

Hello, I am a fellow JASNA member and for three years have been developing The Jane Game, a Jane Austen board game with trivia from all six of her novels. You can finally see it in all its splendor at www.thejanegame.com. Right now the game is not for sale, though, you can enjoy daily trivia fun at www.facebook.com/thejanegame. I plan on bringing The Jane Game to market through Kickstarter.com . This is a web forum where funding of the game’s production can be provided by pre-orders. If you like the game and would like to own it someday, please do one (or all) of the following:

1. On the website — go to “The Game” at bottom left, then scroll down to the “Notify Me” button and fill in your email address

2. Send me your email address ( janesgame [at] gmail [dot]  com ) preferably with your name and, if you feel inclined, one thing very clever, two things moderately clever, or three things very dull indeed. I promise to laugh heartily at them all :)

3. Or, like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/thejanegame

With your email (option 1 and 2) I will notify you when the game’s kickstarter campaign starts for pre-orders. The facebook page will stay updated with the game’s progress as well as provide trivia fun every day.

Matches & Matrimony: A Pride & Prejudice Tale ~ A Game to Download!

Have you ever wanted to manipulate some of Jane Austen’s endings?  [if not, would we have any sequels, or choose to read them?!] – Do you think Elizabeth should have married Mr. Collins, leaving Mr. Darcy to the likes of Miss Bingley? – or should Elinor have married Colonel Brandon, leaving Marianne to pine her life away and Lucy to Edward after all?

Well, here might be your chance.  There is a new game to download called Matches and Matrimony: A Pride & Prejudice Tale  – I haven’t yet played it, but for $6.99 it might be the perfect antidote to another cold winter day – or one can just try it for an hour for free.  At least there are no flesh-eating zombies in the mix, as on the iphone app that I play periodically if stuck in a line somewhere [though we rarely have lines of any kind in Vermont, except perhaps at the DMV, and why I still do not get past the zombie who eats Elizabeth in the first sequence…]

Another Austen Web Round-Up ….. there is no keeping up!

Some interesting items this week to pass on:

*JASNA-New York Region has published its Fall 2008 newsletter online with much on the Austen-Byron Conference, the news that New York City will host the 2012 AGM, and other chapter happenings.

*The Rethinking Jane Austen blog has a post on Austenmania, the blog author’s efforts to find the strangest item “boasting Jane Austen’s image”….. there are a few good ones out there!

*Jane Austen’s World has posted Ellen Moody’s take on the Mansfield Park 2007 movie.  See also Austenprose’s ongoing MP discussion.

*The Guardian.uk and a blogger’s review of Cassandra and Jane by Jill Pitkeathley.

*A blog on vintage fashion, ZipZip’s Vintage Clothing, offers “thoughts about vintage and period sewing patterns, lists of links to worthwhile online vintage sewing resources, comments on sewing with treadle sewing machines.”
